WARNING!
Read at Your Own Risk

As the ghostwriter who helped Pastor Tom Weaver put The Gospel Solution together, I can confidently predict that reading this book will challenge some of your beliefs. I must admit that as I first began assisting Tom in organizing his ideas, I wasn’t sure this book would ever find a publisher.

In the beginning I just didn’t “buy” all that Tom had to say because of my twenty-five-year history as a Christian writer and pastor; I felt pretty well versed in the New Testament. On several occasions as I started to rewrite one of Tom’s chapters, I remember thinking, He’s not going to convince me on this subject. But halfway through this project, a flash of insight finally zapped me, and I began to comprehend what Tom was saying.

After reading one of our early drafts of the manuscript, an editor made a statement which sums up my feelings: “This is indeed startlingly simple, yet fundamentally profound material. It is an exciting set of thoughts to ponder and let sink into the fabric of my life, and it takes time for all the potential ramifications to be felt.” The material in this book has had a dramatic impact upon my own life and ministry, and it has changed my outlook like few other books.

This manuscript presents a whole new perspective on the Christian life by reexamining the teachings of Jesus. There are millions of wounded Christians who don’t know how to reconcile what they believe with what they feel Jesus demands of them. I believe this book will dramatically alter that conflict for many believers.

I’ve written almost fifty books, and I can confidently say that no other project has impacted my life more than this volume. Because this book presents a radical challenge to many of our cherished “private interpretations,” I expect that some will ignore it, others will dismiss it as lacking substance, and some will even reject it as a harmful new wind of doctrine. But I believe the message of this book, and the potential it has for good within the church, is greater than anything with which I have ever been involved. For that reason, I fully expect its message to consume most of my remaining years of ministry. You’ll see as we examine different passages from the Gospels that our task has been to get to the bottom of what the Lord was really teaching. We have asked the hard questions so we could make sense of all those difficult passages.

For best results, I encourage you to turn the pages with an open mind. But if you can’t do that, by all means, read anyway. Even if you disagree with the views expressed here, I think you’ll still find much in this book that will encourage your walk with the Lord. At the very least, this book should help you better understand the ministry of Jesus and the New Testament doctrine of grace.

As we worked on the manuscript for The Gospel Solution, we labored to make its message easily grasped by people who are untrained in theology. At the same time, we knew that many of the answers we provide here would create their own set of questions in the minds of our readers. Therefore we have provided footnotes and chapter summaries in an attempt to give a little more help in answering the many questions that will inevitably arise from this significantly different approach to understanding the Gospels.

You can be sure that this will not be the last book written on this subject. We are already laying plans to produce several more volumes in the light of this new approach.

May God stimulate and challenge you as you read.
