I have found your book such compelling reading
that I have not been able to put it down! I did
not need to be convinced,
as I had decided long ago to trust that salvation
was by grace and grace alone, and that I needed to
do nothing further to
receive it. (Praise God!) I also came to believe
that because we do not possess within us the
ability to be "good," let
alone perfect, the process of sanctification must
also be by grace. Because I believe this, I knew
that Jesus could not
possibly have intended for us to be able to meet
the standards he was setting forth in the synoptic
gospels, although he
was certainly revealing to us the stunning reality
of the utter holiness of the Father. What you have given me in your book that I did not
have, in spite of a few years of pretty
comprehensive Bible study, is a
perfectly logical and simple explanation for what
Jesus was saying and doing when he preached and
taught on earth, and why
it seems so different from what the epistles tell
us. This has been a real joy for me, since I do
love to have everything
"make sense." Even better, it has given me a more adequate
position from which to tell nonbelievers what they
are missing! So often, the
response is "why would I want to saddle myself
with all those rules?" or worse yet, "why would I
want to come to church? I
already feel bad enough about myself!" A favorite part of the book that really stands out
to me is your commentary on the story of the
"Prodigal Son."
Unfortunately, the church often takes on the
character of the older brother in its dealings
with those whose sins are
particularly obvious or scary.
May God in his mercy give us growth in this area! Thanks for a wonderfully straightforward and
needed book! I just finished your book yesterday. I have read
many (probably more than a hundred) books on
theology and Biblical interpretation. I have never
read any book that I consider more enlightening.
It is one of the top 5 books I have ever read. Thanks for letting me read a draft copy of The Gospel Solution. This
is the first time I have been able to find anything on the particular
area of reconciling Jesus’ teachings with the gospel of the Apostles.
The amazing thing is that such an elegant explanation, while appearing
to satisfy hermaneutic interpretation criteria for a historical/cultural
context, appears to as well satisfy Occam’s razor, that the simplest of
many competing theories is most likely the correct one.
I will have fun handing our copies of this book to various people after
it is published. God bless

The idea of transitionalism has caused me to rethink the words of Jesus
in a new and liberating way.

I found The Gospel Solution to be a profoundly stimulating book.
It is not just another book on the gospels.
It is a unique and challenging perspective that will make you think.
It helped me understand the teachings of Jesus in a new way.
